Appearing on ROCK/ANTHEM October 15
Dave Lewis is easily one of the most exciting drumming talents in the world today. A solid, articulate and dynamic musician, Lewis has worked with some of the biggest names in music – from jazz icons like Mike Stern and Joe Lovano, to rock/pop artists like George Thorogood, DJ Rap and The Library. Since his arrival in Los Angeles five years ago, Lewis has become one of the most sought-after live and studio musicians in town.
Born in 1983, Lewis grew up playing piano and began composing at the age of 8. By twelve, he was given his first drum set and never looked back – spending years crafting his own personal style, influenced by jazz, Latin, rock and East Indian classical music.
In middle school, Lewis studied and performed with some of Oakland’s top jazz musicians. By high school, he was playing regularly with a college jazz band. He received a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music, where he graduated in December of 2005.
From there, Lewis went to on to play with various artists and groups such as the Arohi Ensemble, Mirror Talk, Cory Lamb, Rachelle Spector, Chloe Pappas, and Los Einstein. In 2010, he formed his own jazz quintet, The Dave Lewis Group.
Lewis recently completed his first solo record, which features some of the most recognized jazz musicians in the world – among them Jay Oliver, Bob Franceschini, George Brooks and Oskar Cartaya. This self-titled debut features a lush sound influenced by The Yellowjackets, Mike Stern and Pat Metheny.
